Biography:
Dr. Philip Hemken, Ph.D., is a Principal Research Scientist in the Diagnostics Division of Abbott Laboratories. He currently manages an RUO prototype assay development team. He got his BSc in Microbiology (Chemistry Minor) from Iowa State University of Science and Technology in 1986, MA in Biotechnology from Washington University in St. Louis in 1991, and PhD in Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology from Iowa State University of Science and Technology in 1996 followed by a Postdoc in the Biology Division at Argonne National Laboratories (1996-1997). Dr. Hemken has been at Abbott for 26 years and recently moved to managing RUO prototype assay development team at the beginning of 2024. He has been a part of the Global Biologics Discovery organization from 2016-2023 and managed the Protein Engineering Team from 2021-2023. He has managed the production of recombinant biologics for 30 immunoassay development projects. When Dr. Hemken worked in Automated Immunoassay Development (2005-2016), he completed 15 immunoassay prototyping projects. Dr. Hemken has 40 publications, 13 patent applications with 3 issued patents.
