Title : Effectiveness of semaglutide in non-alcoholic steatohepatitis resolution a meta-analysis and systematic review
Abstract:
Non-alcohol related fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is characterized by steatosis resulting from factors unrelated to excessive alcohol consumption. It frequently coexists with other metabolic disorders such as high cholesterol, obesity, and diabetes. The use of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) analogues is currently being studied as a possible treatment option in NAFLD. GLP-1 receptor agonists have pleiotropic effects on several aspects of metabolic syndrome relevant to treatment of NASH, including body weight, inflammation, and glucose and lipid metabolism. A comprehensive literature search showed 4 randomized controlled trials (N = 604) comparing Semaglutide (0.4mg/day or 2.4mg/week) with placebo. Our meta-analysis shows that while semaglutide improves liver enzyme levels and cardiovascular health in patients with NAFLD, it has a limited impact on liver fibrosis and fat content.
