Title : Complex endoscopy in pediatrics: Optimizing care
Abstract:
Complex endoscopy procedures are important for the care of pediatric patients. Although endoscopic procedures such as removal of foreign bodies are frequently performed in pediatric patients, other interventions such as endoscopy for management of hemostasis are less commonly performed. As a consequence, pediatric gastroenterologists are less trained and less comfortable performing endoscopy for hemostasis and complex endoscopic procedures for other indications. We developed and implemented an Advanced Complex Endoscopy Team (ACE) team at our institution, which provides inpatient/outpatient endoscopy back-up support and found that this led to improvement in both hemostasis procedures quality measures and provider satisfaction.
