Post COVID GI disorders refer to gastrointestinal (GI) problems that may arise in individuals who have recently recovered from COVID-19. These GI problems can range from mild symptoms such as abdominal pain and nausea, to more severe symptoms including bleeding and inflammation. While the exact cause of post-COVID GI disorders is still not fully understood, it is believed to be related to the body's immune response to the virus. The most common post-COVID GI disorder is called “gastrointestinal dysmotility”. This condition is characterized by a disruption in the normal functioning of the GI tract, resulting in a range of symptoms such as abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhoea, nausea, and vomiting. It is important to note that post-COVID GI disorders can be difficult to diagnose as many of their symptoms overlap with other conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Additionally, due to the recent nature of the pandemic, there is still a lot to learn about the long-term health effects of COVID-19. Fortunately, there are treatment options available to individuals who are suffering from post-COVID GI disorders. These treatments include dietary changes, lifestyle modifications, probiotics, and medications.
