Over the last decade, the use of advanced techniques in the field of gastroenterology has increased dramatically. In patients with liver disease, several novel diagnostic and therapeutic treatments can now be performed endoscopically with ease and efficacy. The use of these procedures in the care of patients with GI Tract disease will continue to rise because of their minimally invasive nature, their safety and efficacy in the hands of skilled operators, and the availability of new accessories and technology. Internal medicine's gastroenterology and hepatology are very dynamic branches of medicine, with several breakthroughs in the last 20-30 years. Beginning with clinical medicine and progressing via endoscopy, interventional endoscopy, and ultrasound to precision medicine, proteomics, and metabolomics, the future of medicine appears to be here.
