Choledocholithiasis

Choledocholithiasis

Choledocholithiasis Is A Condition In Which A Gallstone Gets Trapped In The Common Bile Duct, Which Is The Tube That Carries Bile From The Gallbladder To The Small Intestine. This Blockage Can Cause Acute Or Chronic Inflammation Of The Bile Duct, And Can Lead To Serious Complications Such As Pancreatitis, Jaundice, And Infection Of The Bile Ducts. Choledocholithiasis Is One Of The Most Common Causes Of Biliary Tract-Related Diseases And Is Caused By The Accumulation Of Gallstones In The Common Bile Duct. Gallstones Are Made Up Of Cholesterol And Other Substances That Form When Bile, A Substance Produced In The Liver And Stored In The Gallbladder, Becomes Saturated With These Components. In Some Cases, The Gallstones Become Large Enough To Get Stuck In The Narrow Bile Ducts, Causing Blockage And Preventing Bile From Flowing Out. Risk Factors For Developing Choledocholithiasis Include Age, Gender, Family History, And Certain Medical Conditions Such As Diabetes, Pancreatitis, And Cirrhosis. Symptoms May Include Pain In The Right Upper Abdomen, Fever, Nausea, Vomiting, Jaundice, And Clay-Colored Stools. Diagnosis Is Usually Made Through Imaging Tests Such As An Ultrasound Or CT Scan.
