Gastritis

Gastritis

Gastritis is a common condition in which the lining of the stomach becomes inflamed. It is a painful and uncomfortable condition, and can be caused by a variety of factors, including bacterial or viral infections, certain medications, alcohol consumption, or even stress. Gastritis can also be caused by autoimmune disorders such as Crohn's disease and celiac disease. Symptoms of gastritis include abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, bloating, and indigestion. In severe cases, gastritis can cause bleeding in the stomach, which can be life-threatening. Treatment for gastritis typically involves avoiding triggers, such as alcohol, certain medications, and stress. Anti-inflammatory medications and antibiotics may be prescribed for bacterial infections, and proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) may be prescribed to reduce stomach acid production. If the gastritis is severe, a doctor may recommend surgery to remove the inflamed area of the stomach. Dietary changes may also be recommended to help treat and prevent gastritis. Eating smaller meals more frequently and avoiding high-fat, spicy, and acidic foods can help reduce the symptoms of gastritis. Drinking plenty of water and eating probiotic-rich foods, such as yogurt, can also be beneficial.
