Paediatric nutrition is a key factor in the overall health and wellbeing of children. Proper paediatric nutrition supports physical and mental development, establishes life-long habits, and helps to prevent certain health conditions such as obesity and heart disease. A balanced diet of whole grains, fruits and vegetables, proteins, dairy products, and healthy fats is important for children of all ages. Adequate nutrition is especially important during infancy and early childhood. Breast milk or infant formula provides the necessary nutrients for the infant’s growth and development. As the child grows, nutrient-rich meals and snacks should be provided. Fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and low-fat dairy are all important components of a healthy diet for children. In addition to providing nutritious meals, parents and caregivers should also limit sugary drinks and snacks and encourage water consumption. Paediatric nutrition should also include adequate amounts of vitamins and minerals, such as iron, zinc, and vitamin D. Vitamin D is especially important for bone development in children. In addition to providing healthy meals, parents and caregivers should also provide opportunities for physical activity for children. Regular physical activity helps to maintain a healthy weight, develop strong bones and muscles, and improve overall health.
