Rectal Prolapse

Rectal Prolapse

Rectal Prolapse Is A Medical Condition In Which The Rectum, The Lower End Of The Large Intestine, Protrudes Through The Anus. It Is Caused By A Weakening Of The Pelvic Floor Muscles, Which Can Be The Result Of Multiple Childbirth, Straining During Bowel Movements, And Other Conditions. Rectal Prolapse Is More Common In Females, And Is Usually Seen In Adults Over Age 50, Although It Can Occur In Children As Well. The Primary Symptom Of Rectal Prolapse Is A Feeling Of Fullness Or Pressure In The Rectal Area, As Well As The Protrusion Of Tissue Through The Anus. Other Symptoms Can Include Pain, Bleeding, Difficulty With Bowel Movements, And Fecal Incontinence. Diagnosis Is Typically Made Through Physical Examination, And Can Be Confirmed With Other Imaging Techniques Such As An X-Ray Or MRI. Treatment For Rectal Prolapse May Involve Lifestyle Changes Such As Increasing Fiber In The Diet To Help With Bowel Movements, Exercising The Pelvic Floor Muscles, And Avoiding Straining. Surgery Is Typically Used For More Severe Cases, And Can Involve Either Repairing The Rectum To Its Normal Position, Or Removing Part Of The Rectum.
