Viral Gastroenteritis, Also Known As The Stomach Flu, Is An Infection Of The Gastrointestinal Tract Caused By A Virus. It Is Highly Contagious And Can Spread Quickly Through Contact With An Infected Person, Contaminated Food Or Water, Or Contact With Surfaces That Have Been Exposed To The Virus. Symptoms Of Viral Gastroenteritis Include Nausea, Vomiting, Diarrhoea, Abdominal Pain And Cramps, Headache, And Fever. Viral Gastroenteritis Is Usually Caused By One Of Several Types Of Viruses, Including Rotavirus, Adenovirus, Norovirus, And Sapovirus. Rotavirus Is The Most Common Cause Of Viral Gastroenteritis In Children, While Norovirus Is The Most Common Cause Of Viral Gastroenteritis In Adults. The Best Way To Prevent Viral Gastroenteritis Is To Practice Good Hygiene. This Includes Washing Hands Frequently With Soap And Warm Water, Especially After Using The Bathroom And Before Eating Or Preparing Food. Disinfecting Commonly Touched Surfaces, Such As Doorknobs And Countertops, Can Also Help Prevent The Spread Of The Virus. In Most Cases, Viral Gastroenteritis Will Go Away On Its Own Without Treatment. However, It Is Important To Stay Hydrated By Drinking Plenty Of Fluids, Such As Water, Broth, And Electrolyte Solutions. Over-The-Counter Medications, Such As Anti-Diarrheal Drugs, Can Also Be Used To Help Reduce Symptoms. If Symptoms Of Viral Gastroenteritis Last Longer Than A Few Days Or If They Become Severe, It Is Important To Contact A Doctor. In Some Cases, Antibiotics Or Other Medications May Be Necessary. It Is Also Important To Seek Medical Attention If There Is Blood In The Stool Or Vomit, Or Signs Of Dehydration, Such As A Dry Mouth Or Dark Urine.
