Abdominal Tuberculosis

Abdominal Tuberculosis (TB) Is A Type Of TB That Affects The Abdominal Organs, Such As The Intestines, Liver, Or Spleen. It Is Caused By The Same Bacteria That Cause Pulmonary TB, Mycobacterium Tuberculosis. Abdominal TB Is Most Commonly Seen In Developing Countries, Where It Is A Leading Cause Of Death From TB. It Is Also Seen In People With A Weakened Immune System, Such As Those Infected With HIV. The Most Common Symptom Of Abdominal TB Is Abdominal Pain. Other Symptoms Can Include Weight Loss, Fever, Night Sweats, Nausea, And Vomiting. People With Abdominal TB May Also Have Symptoms Of Other Diseases, Such As Jaundice Or Anemia. Diagnosis Of Abdominal TB Is Usually Done Through A Combination Of Physical Examination, Imaging Tests, And Laboratory Tests. The Most Common Imaging Test Used Is Computed Tomography (CT) Scan. Laboratory Tests May Include A Sputum Sample, Urine Sample, And A Biopsy. Treatment Of Abdominal TB Typically Involves A Combination Of Medications. These Medications May Include Antibiotics, Such As Isoniazid And Rifampin, And Anti-Tuberculosis Drugs, Such As Ethambutol And Pyrazinamide. Surgery May Also Be Necessary If The Disease Is Advanced. It Is Important To Note That Abdominal TB Is Contagious And Can Be Spread Through Contact With An Infected Person. To Reduce The Risk Of Infection, People Should Practice Good Hygiene, Such As Washing Their Hands Regularly And Avoiding Close Contact With An Infected Person. Vaccines Are Also Available For Those Who Are At Risk For TB.
