An abscess of the gallbladder is a localized collection of pus that forms in the gallbladder, a small organ located in the upper right abdomen that stores bile for digestion. It is a rare condition and can be caused by a bacterial infection, a blockage in the bile duct, or an injury to the gallbladder itself. Symptoms of an abscess of the gallbladder can include pain in the upper right abdomen, fever, nausea, vomiting, and jaundice. Treatment typically involves antibiotics to kill the infection and may also require drainage of the abscess, either through a needle or surgically. When an abscess of the gallbladder occurs, the infection usually begins in the gallbladder and spreads to the bile ducts. This can cause inflammation and blockage of the bile ducts, which can lead to an accumulation of pus in the gallbladder. The infection can also spread to other parts of the body, including the liver, pancreas, and intestines. In some cases, an abscess of the gallbladder may be caused by a bacterial infection, such as E. coli or salmonella.bn
