Biliopancreatic Diversion

Biliopancreatic Diversion

Biliopancreatic Diversion (BPD) Is A Type Of Bariatric Surgery That Involves Surgically Reducing The Size Of The Stomach And Bypassing A Large Portion Of The Small Intestine. This Procedure Is One Of The Most Effective Forms Of Weight-Loss Surgery, And It Can Provide Long-Term Weight Control And Improved Health For Many People Who Are Overweight Or Obese. BPD Works By Decreasing The Amount Of Food That Can Be Consumed During Meals, While Also Reducing The Amount Of Calories And Nutrients That Can Be Absorbed. During The Procedure, The Surgeon Will Divide The Stomach Into Two Parts – A Small Upper Pouch And A Larger Lower Remnant. The Upper Pouch Will Remain Connected To The Esophagus And The Small Intestine, While The Lower Remnant Will Be Bypassed. This Reduces The Amount Of Food That Can Be Eaten At One Time And Decreases The Body’s Ability To Absorb Calories And Nutrients, Resulting In Weight Loss. In Addition To Reducing The Amount Of Food That Can Be Eaten, BPD Can Also Improve Other Medical Conditions Related To Obesity, Including Type 2 Diabetes And Heart Disease. By Reducing The Amount Of Calories And Nutrients That Are Absorbed, The Risk Of Developing Diabetes Is Decreased.
