Diverticulosis

Diverticulosis

Diverticulosis Is A Digestive Disorder That Is The Result Of Small Pouches Called Diverticula Forming In The Colon's Inner Lining. These Pouches Are Believed To Be Caused By Increased Pressure In The Colon Due To A Low-Fiber Diet. Diverticula Can Become Inflamed, Leading To A Condition Called Diverticulitis. Diverticulosis Typically Affects People Over The Age Of 40, And Is More Common In Men Than Women. It Is Often Symptomless, But Can Cause Abdominal Pain, Bloating, And Changes In Bowel Movements. Other Symptoms Can Include Constipation, Diarrhea, And Rectal Bleeding. To Diagnose Diverticulosis, A Doctor May Use Imaging Tests, Such As An Abdominal X-Ray Or CT Scan, To Look For The Diverticula. A Colonoscopy May Also Be Used To Take A Closer Look At The Colon. Treatment For Diverticulosis Usually Involves Eating A High-Fiber Diet And Drinking Plenty Of Fluids To Help Reduce Pressure In The Colon. If Diverticulitis Is Present, Antibiotics And Pain Medication May Be Necessary. In Severe Cases, Surgery May Be Recommended. It Is Important To Note That Diverticulosis Does Not Always Lead To Diverticulitis, And Most People Who Have Diverticulosis Do Not Have Symptoms. Eating A Healthy Diet And Drinking Plenty Of Water Can Help Reduce The Risk Of Complications. Additionally, It Is Important To See A Doctor If Any Symptoms Of Diverticulosis Or Diverticulitis Are Present.
