Endoscopic hepatology is a specialized field of medical practice focusing on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases of the liver. Endoscopic hepatology is a minimally-invasive specialty which utilizes advanced imaging techniques such as endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) to diagnose and treat conditions such as cirrhosis, fatty liver disease, and biliary tract disorders. Endoscopic hepatology is a rapidly growing field, as it provides a more accurate and less invasive means of diagnosing and treating liver diseases. EUS is a procedure in which an endoscope is inserted into the stomach and the esophagus. It can be used to examine the liver and its surrounding structures, such as the pancreas, gallbladder, and bile ducts. An endoscopic ultrasound allows for accurate diagnosis and treatment of conditions such as cirrhosis and fatty liver disease. Another tool used in endoscopic hepatology is endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP). ERCP is a procedure which uses a small camera to examine the bile ducts and pancreas. This procedure is used to diagnose and treat conditions such as bile duct obstruction and pancreatic diseases.
